That is why here at Cheap Cheap Moving Boxes we have created an essential list of moving supplies and equipment that you can refer to before, during, and after your move. This list will help you choose the perfect supplies that you will need to make your move more manageable.

The List of Moving Supplies

Moving boxes

Boxes are going to be the key item in your move. We recommend getting a variety of sizes and types that will make the move that much easier. Small boxes are great for heavy items like your books, DVDs, and other heavier small items. Medium boxes work well with pillows, linens, and some heavier items. Large boxes are perfect for blankets, comforters, and clothing. If you want to make the transition for your clothes that are hanging in your closet easier, then the wardrobe box is the right one to choose.

A lot of people want to save money when it comes to boxes. They will search local grocery and liquor stores to find used boxes. People will also search on Facebook or Craigslist for moving boxes. Remember that with used boxes they do lose their structural integrity. They will not be able to carry as much weight as if they were new.

Padding

Of course, you do not want to just throw everything thing in a box and hope for the best. You will want to pad and cushion your boxes. Bubble wrap and packing paper is made specifically for this reason. Bubble wrap is ideal for wrapping larger and oddly shaped fragile items.

Blank newsprint is a less expensive option and may take a little bit more to pad your belongings. Take in consideration that packing paper is great for wrapping dishes and filling empty space in boxes. For you more fragile items you will want to use bubble wrap or blankets.

Packing Tape

There are a lot of different tapes out there on the market. Some are better than others. One mistake that a lot of people make is that they use Duct Tape for their boxes. This tape is very sticky and can be a struggle to remove when you start the unpacking phase. Spend the extra money on good packing tape and a tape gun dispenser. The tape gun will make applying the tape easier and quicker. We recommend having at least 2-3 rolls of tape for packing.

Rachet Straps and Tie Downs

When you open the gate to your moving truck you will notice that usually on the side walls there are slots. These slots are to be used in conjunction with ratchet straps or tie downs. Rachet straps will help secure any heavy furniture or appliances from shifting around during transport. You will want to have quality ratchet straps that will be able to handle the weight and load that they are trying to keep in place.

Moving Your Appliances and Furniture

Moving Blankets and Pads

When moving your wood furniture or other appliances, make sure that you have moving blankets. This will help protect them from any damage such as dents, dings, and scratches. When ordering moving pads, you will want to have at least a dozen for every two rooms. So, if you have a 4-bedroom home you will want at minimum 2 dozen moving blankets.

Furniture Covers

These simple to use plastic covers slide right over your furniture. They do not offer much when it comes to padding, but they will help protect the surface from damage. Mattress bags may also preserve the warranty on your mattresses. At minimum we recommend purchasing mattress bags, sofa covers, and chair covers.

Hand Truck and Dollies

If you do not have a hand truck or dolly, we would recommend renting one. A lot of people do not move heavy appliances or items around all the time, so they have no need in buying a hand truck.

If you are going to be carrying heavy items up and down flights of stairs, maybe you should investigate Forearm Forklift straps. Stairs can be troublesome for dollies; these types of straps make it easier to move heavy items while going up and down the stairs. It will only take you and a friend to make this happen.

Tool Set

A lot of times you will need to dismantle furniture such as bed frames and other bulky furniture. A simple tool set that contains a hammer, screwdrivers, and wrenches makes disassembly easy.

Stretch Wrap

Stretch wrap is one of the most useful and multi-use moving supply. You can use it to keep drawers and cabinets closed. It can also be used to protect furniture, especially wood, from scratches and other surface damage.

Cleaning Supplies

Garbage Bags

Make sure to have plenty of trash bags on hand when you are moving and unpacking. Use them for throwing away trash. They can also be used for packing any last-minute items.

Buckets

Buckets are an invaluable item when it comes to cleaning. They are also inexpensive and can be picked up at any local hardware store. Make sure to get a bucket with a lid. Once you are done cleaning, you can pack the cleaning supplies into the bucket and then transfer them to your new home.

Broom

You are most likely already have a broom, so just keep it handy during your move. You will want to use it to clean your old place and your new home. Also make sure to sweep out the inside of the moving truck before and after the move.

Small Important Supplies

Box Cutter

This is going to come in handy more during the unpacking phase, rather during packing. This will make opening all those taped boxes a breeze. Just be careful, they are extremely sharp.

Disc or Pad Locks

You may not be able to fit everything in your new place and need to rent a storage unit. Or you may be using container style moving such as PODS or 1800-Packrat. You will want to make sure that you belong are secure and that no one else has the possibility of getting in. We recommend spending the extra money and buying a good disc lock.

Gloves

When carrying boxes and furniture, there is a chance of scratches and cuts. Invest in some work gloves for yourself and anyone else helping you move. Your friends, family, and hands will thank you for this.

Plastic Baggies

When you are disassembling furniture or your electronics, you will want to place the nuts, bolts, screws, and cords somewhere. Place them in plastic baggies and label them. Smaller baggies are perfect for your nuts and bolts, whereas the larger gallon size is best for cords and cables.

Permanent Markers

Due to all the labeling, you will want a nice supply of permanent markers. Leave a marker in each room while you are packing, then you will not need to search for a writing utensil.
